Publishing with Front Page
Overview:
Front page includes a built-in FTP protocol to upload
your pages into your web host's Internet server. Before front page
came along, a web publisher needed to learn how to use an FTP (file
transfer protocol) program to upload pages into the Internet. Now
publishing is one button, provided you know your web host's upload
instructions. For Geocities, it is simply ftp://ftp.geocities.com.
Another big topic related to front page and publishing is the Front
Page Server Extensions. These are upgrades needed to be added to a
web host in order to fully support a front page web. These
extensions must be purchased from Microsoft and then installed onto the
web server. If the web server is a Front Page Extended server, then
you have even more power for publishing with front page. Web sites
on these servers will allow all the "COOL" front page
components to be fully operational. Plus publishing is much more
efficient. The final plus is that you can open your web site from
the Internet and work "LIVE" on your site eliminating the entire
need for publishing! Now that is very nice.
Recommendation:
Locate a web host that is fully Front Page Extended and publish your web
pages there. We use GeoCities because it is free, easy, and we have
used it for several years.
