3/1/02 Oh Happy Day...the
day the radar unit arrived, March 2002. We originally planned to install a
radar and a Garmin 182-c plotter. Then after looking into a custom nav pod
unit for the helm, we changed our minds. The goal is to mount radar, nav,
and pilot head at the helm. NavPod, makers of the cool boxes for helms, did not have a unit that would fit all three items. So we dropped
the Garmin and upgraded the radar to an RL70CRC radar / chartplotter. |
|
 |
3/1/02 Now we can use a
NavPod and fit radar / chartplotter, and the B & G Pilot head at the
helm.

 |
3/2/02 Mounting the radar
began on March 2, 2002. We had decided to place the radome on a Kato
Marine SS mast mount just below the spreaders. This required a new deck
light and moving the staysail topping lift. |
|
 |
3/2/02 Holes were drilled
and tapped for SS screws to allow for bolting the radar mount to the
mast.
 |
|
 |
3/2/02 A 1" hole was
drilled to allow for the radar cable and a new wire for the new
deck light. The deck light will be mounted to the bottom of the SS radar
mount.
We placed this hole 1" higher then the mount to aid in rain water
dripping off the wire and not into the mast. Silicone seals the grommet. |
|
 |
3/2/02 Wiring the radar
requires a new PVC retaining tube. The mast had one unused "T
slot" so we added a new tube and pulled the wire through this tube.
This photo shows the unused "T-slot" on the left. |
|
 |
3/9/02 The radar mounting is
completed. Check the scale of this unit next to Radeen.
 |
|
 |
3/9/02 The New Deck Light
added to the bottom of the SS mount. This was threaded into the plate
since the radome mounts flat onto the plate. |

lowered topping lift.

3/16/02 The mast was re-stepped.....the
radar was placed just below the spreaders, This photo also show the TV
mount and lightning strike projecting off the back of the masthead.
This shows an overview of the moved topping lift and the new deck light under the radar unit. |

 |
3/16/02 The Display
(color 7" VGA chartplotter) will be mounted at the helm in a NavPod
unit. To the top left of the display we will mount the Pilot Head, and to
the bottom left we will mount the VHF RAM mic.
Unit is....Raymarine RL70CRC |
