3/9/02
We decided on a Simpson Lawrence Sprint 1000
windlass centered on the bow sprit. This unit has 1000 lbs of pull. We
also added 250' of 5/16" HT chain and a 44lb (20KG) Bruce anchor.
3/9/02 We need to work out
the chain stopper and we might add stainless steel plates to protect the
varnish.
3/9/02 Below deck photos of
the windlass install.
3/9/02 This photo shows how
the bow sprit is built up and why the windlass must be
installed on centerline.
3/9/02 The 1.0
gauge feed wires to the
windlass are oversized! Here are the small wires that run to the
windlass motor and the large wires (1.0 gauge) that run to the battery
bank. That should run the windlass!
The
Chain Ramp & PVC Tube
3/16/02 The chain
ramp is made out of 3/4" PVC. The IP35 windlass chain drop is too
far forward, so a ramp will allow the chain to reach the locker.
3/9/02 A PVC Tube
with a bend was created to keep the chain RETURN from rubbing against the
motor. This tube was heated and a V was cut to allow for the bend. The
tube is clamped to the windlass motor.
Wiring
the Windlass and Foot Switches
3/23/02 The 1.0
gauge feed wires all the way to the motor! The issue is how to secure
these heavy wires to the haul in the anchor locker. Rob designed a PVC
tube and secured it to the bow sprit with a clamp.
3/23/02 The other
end is epoxied into the headliner gap back at the bulkhead. Small
slots have been cut to allow the foot switch wires to run to the deck.

3/23/02 The solenoid
is mounted on the anchor locker bulkhead just inside the door to the upper
left. The supply lines are run along the port gunwale to the nav
desk then under the floor to the engine compartment and into the battery
box.
3/30/02 The foot
switches were added on the starboard bow, since the deck wash down in
on the port bow.
3/30/02 The solenoid
wiring is completed.
A remote switch was added under the port side of the
helm seat. We had too many wires in the pedestal to add it to the NavPod.
The
WINDLASS IS COMPLETED
.
The Deck Wash Down
We added a deck wash down to the port
bow. This is in the anchor locker.
The
pump is
located in the sole locker next to the mast. We split the deck wash
down pump and ran a line to the stern.
Here is a photo of the split, bow to stern lines. The wires are for the
mast, we just re-stepped the mast.
The
stern deck wash
down pump outlet is in the sail locker. A hose can be plugged into this
while seated at the helm. This will allow us to use the wash down pump in
the dinghy.
